The 27th Annual Meeting of the Global Harmonisation of Medical Device Regulations (GHMDR) was held in Shanghai.

From 27 to 30 November, the 27th Global Harmonisation of Medical Devices Regulations (GHWP) Annual Meeting and Technical Committee Meeting was held in Shanghai. Li Li, Secretary of the Party Group and Director General of the State Drug Administration (SDA), attended the annual meeting and delivered a speech.

Li Li said, as a big country of medical device industry, China’s medical device R&D and innovation vitality has been increasing, the construction of regulations and standards continues to promote, the regulation of international exchanges and cooperation is widely carried out, which strongly promotes the high-quality development of the industry.GHWP is an important international organisation in the field of global medical devices, China’s State Administration of Pharmaceutical Supervision will participate in the work of the GHWP in a more in-depth manner, and strengthen the regulatory exchanges and mutual understanding with other countries and regions in the world. GHWP will also promote the convergence, coordination and trust of global medical device regulation, support global medical device technology innovation and cooperation, and make new and greater contributions to the construction of a human health community.

During the annual meeting, Xu Jinghe, Deputy Director General of the State Drug Administration, and Muralitharan Paramasu, Director General of the Malaysian Medical Devices Authority, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Medical Devices Co-operation between the State Drug Administration of the People’s Republic of China and the Malaysian Medical Devices Authority, and both sides reached a consensus on further strengthening the exchanges and co-operation between the two countries in the regulation of medical devices.

This was the first annual meeting held in China since Xu Jinghe, Deputy Director General of the State Administration of Pharmaceutical Administration of China, became the Chairman of GHWP. More than 600 delegates from 25 countries and regions around the world attended the meeting. The annual meeting was a four-day seminar on accelerating global medical device regulatory convergence, coordination and trust.
