The correct usage method of medical elastic bandage

The use of medical elastic bandages can adopt different bandaging techniques such as circular bandaging, spiral bandaging, spiral folding bandaging, and 8-shaped bandaging according to different bandaging sites and needs.

1

The circular bandaging method is suitable for bandaging parts of the limbs with uniform thickness, such as the wrist, lower leg, and forehead. When operating, first open the elastic bandage, place the head diagonally on the injured limb and press it down with your thumb, then wrap it around the limb once, and then fold one small corner of the head back and continue wrapping it in circles, covering the previous circle with each circle. Wrap it 3-4 times to fix it.

The spiral bandaging method is suitable for bandaging parts of limbs with similar thickness, such as the upper arm, lower thigh, etc. When operating, first wrap the elastic bandage in a circular pattern for 23 circles, then wrap it diagonally upwards, covering 1/23 of the previous circle with each circle. Gradually wrap it upwards to the end that needs to be wrapped, and then fix it with adhesive tape.

The spiral folding bandaging method is suitable for bandaging parts of limbs with significant differences in thickness, such as forearms, calves, thighs, etc. When operating, first perform 23 circular bandages, then press the upper edge of the elastic bandage with the left thumb, fold the elastic bandage downwards, wrap it backwards and tighten the elastic bandage, fold it back once per circle, and press 1/23 of the previous circle with the last circle. The folded part should not be on the wound or bone process. Finally, fix the end of the elastic bandage with adhesive tape.

The 8-shaped bandaging method is suitable for bandaging joints such as elbows, knees, ankles, etc. One method is to first wrap the joint in a circular pattern, then wrap the elastic bandage diagonally around it, one circle above the joint and one circle below the joint. The two circles intersect on the concave surface of the joint, repeating this process, and finally wrap it in a circular pattern above or below the joint. The second method is to first wrap a few circles of circular bandages under the joint, then wrap the elastic bandage back and forth in an 8-shaped pattern from bottom to top, and then from top to bottom, gradually bringing the intersection closer to the joint, and finally wrap it in a circular pattern to end.

In short, when using medical elastic bandages, it is necessary to ensure that the bandage is flat and wrinkle free, and the tightness of the wrapping should be moderate to avoid local compression caused by excessive tightness, which affects blood circulation. It is also necessary to avoid excessive looseness that may expose or loosen the dressing.
